Sebit Island: Four Structures, Three Names

Published September 17, 2026한강 위 세빛섬의 구조와 주변 풍경을 보여줍니다. 산책하며 섬 전체를 둘러보세요.

Structural Composition and Naming

The site is physically composed of four distinct structures: Gavit Island (가빛섬), Chaebit Island (채빛섬), Solbit Island (솔빛섬), and Yebit Island (예빛섬). Despite this physical reality, official introductions present only the first three as members of Sebit Island (세빛섬), excluding Yebit Island from the formal designation. The name Sebit Island was adopted for the site previously known as Sebit Ddudung Island (세빛둥둥섬). This naming convention reflects a specific administrative choice rather than a complete enumeration of all physical components.

Visitor Volume and Usage Patterns

As of the end of 2014, the site attracted an average of 1,500 visitors on weekdays and 3,000 on weekends. Following filming activities for Avengers 2, weekend attendance surged to as high as 10,000 people. Seoul citizens utilize the space for diverse purposes, including cafes, restaurants, wedding venues, and exhibition halls. These usage patterns indicate a shift from purely recreational walking to multi-functional social and commercial activity.

Operational Constraints and Weather Policies

Operations are subject to strict weather-related interruptions, with programs suspended during periods of long-term extreme heat, specifically noted for the period from July 23 to August 11. In cases where meteorological warnings such as extreme heat, typhoons, heavy rain, or fine dust make walking tours difficult, all reservations are canceled immediately upon issuance of the warning. Reservations must be made at least one week prior to the intended visit date. These policies prioritize safety and operational feasibility over standard scheduling.
